Fianna Fáil councillor Stephen McKee has called for the ban on cars being parked at Bettystown beach to be lifted.

Duleek based McKee made the call on LMFM radio but emphasised he wants a small well managed facility sited in the burrows area, for the use of the elderly and disabled, and not a return to cars being able to park anywhere.

He said, ‘The ban is having a knock on effect on local businesses who are struggling to provide parking spaces for customers.

‘A car free beach has been wonderful but there is scope to provide a well managed small parking area.’
