Report Paul Murphy

Social Democrat county councillor Ronan Moore has asked Meath County Council to write to the Department of housing to request increased and multi-annual funding for the local authority Energy Efficiency Retrofitting Programme in order to effectively reach national climate targets and deliver much-needed energy efficiency retrofitting.

Cllr Moore said he had spoken previously about the need to carry out retrofitting “en masse”, meaning that several houses in housing estates should be done at the same time. This would be more efficient in time and cost but there would need to be an increase in the resourcing of such projects.

Supporting Cllr Moore’s notice of motion, Cllr Alan Tobin said there was such thing as energy poverty. It was necessary to make people’s homes warmer and at the same time reduce their energy bills. The motion was agreed by the council and the Department will receive correspondence on the issue.
