Drogheda Homeless Aid is to receive a ministerial award to mark its 30-year contribution to the Community Employment Scheme Minister for Social Protection Dara Calleary wrote to the organisation saying that he wanted to acknowledge the key role and valuable opportunities that the CE programme had provided since 1994 and the role the participants played in supporting the delivery of key services to local communities.
He said the CE schemes had provided a vital tool to address the challenges faced by communities, providing temporary work opportunities and alleviate unemployment but also providing participants with essential skills, training and hands-on experience in addition to providing local development with vital support.
A plaque in recognition of Drogheda Homeless Aid’s work is to be presented to the organisation. Drogheda Homeless Aid Chairperson Paul Murphy said the organisation was delighted to receive the award and thanked Minister Calleary for recognising Dha’s 30-year contribution to the scheme. “The award was unexpected but very welcome. I want to thank our current management leader Mandie Walsh and the entire staff including our 12 CE participants for all their hard work. This award is a tribute to their dedication and hard work.”
He said that Dha provides vital services aimed at alleviating homelessness across Louth and Meath. It is funded by Louth County Council, Meath County Council, the Hse and generous contributions from the general public.
