Fine Gael Cllr John Duffy has asked if works will commence this year on the restoration and refurbishment of St Finian’s/Old St Patrick’s Classical School in Navan. He said that the close of Stage One tender for the works had taken place at the end of April this year and asked about the current status of the project.

Officials replied that the consultant architects were finalising preparation of Stage 2 tender documents to invite tenders and submissions from the candidates shortlisted in Stage 1. The council intends to complete the procurement process and appoint a contractor before the end of quarter 4 this year subject to the approval of the funding authority. The mobilisation to the site will be a matter for the appointed contractor but would likely be late quarter 4 2025 or early next year.

Separately, Independent Cllr Francis Deane asked if the council plans to install filter lights at the newly-constructed traffic lights junction at Clonmagadden on the Proudstown Road. Officials replied that the junction at Clonmagadden Road x R162 Proudstown Rd junction already had filter light  on the R162 Southbound into Clonmagadden Rd. There were also in-ground detector loops in the junction for right turners. A right turn box is yet to be marked on the ground in the junction.

They said that during the construction it was decided to observe the the operation of the junction prior to marking right turn filter box to ensure all swept paths were appropriate and the Navan town bus service could easily navigate the ,eft turn from the R162 into Clonmagadden Rd. A stage 3 road safety audit is due to be completed and a number of small snags are outstanding – at which time the right turn filter box will be marked on the road.
