Report Paul Murphy
A special commemoration of poet, patriot and political activist John Boyle O’Reilly is to take place this Sunday at 2.30pm at the John Boyle O’Reilly memorial at Dowth 135 years after his death. The gathering will not only reflect on his life and enduring legacy but also honour the generations of Irish men and women who over the past century have worked to keep his memory alive.

The event is hosted by the Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council Cllr Wayne Harding in conjunction with Meath and Louth County Councils. Cllr Harding said John Boyle O’Reilly was one of the great sons of this region. His contribution as a writer, activist and champion of freedom had made a lasting impact not only in Ireland but across the Atlantic.

Denis Cummins, Chair of Drogheda Civic Trust said that the organisation was proud to support the commemoration and JBORs values of justice, equality and creativity. It was important that his story remained alive in the community where he was born. The speakers on Sunday include Sean I Britain, Paul Allen, R Ignatius O’Donovan and Niall O’Brien.
