Fianna Fail Councillor Caroline O’Reilly has called for an immediate traffic survey to be carried out at Foxlodge Manor and Foxlodge Woods in Ratoath as a prelude to installing traffic ramps. She told a meeting of Ratoath Municipal District that she had been calling for these measures since April. Residents are continuing to make reports of dangerous speeding and antisocial driving in the estate.
“A survey and follow-in action must now be prioritised without further delay”, she said. In supporting information given by county council officials they said that the transportation section was in the process of planning and designing a traffic calming policy for the county. The policy sets out detailed criteria for the assessment and delivery of traffic calming measures to reduce the adverse effects that speed and volumes of traffic have on our roads.
Traffic calming aims to improve road safety and enhance the environment for all roads users and allows for a programme of schemes to be developed and to seek annual funding. Once adopted all requests for calming measures will be assessed based on the criteria and the appropriate action will be taken in line with the policy, they said, adding that Cllr O’Reilly’s request will be added to the list.
