A 26 year-old mother of one told a Judge she didn’t know what happened when she was brought before Navan District Civil Court on Friday charged with offences including trespass, theft and assault earlier that day. Abbie Dempsey with an address at Johnswood Park, Ashbourne and stated to be living with a friend indicated through her solicitor Maurice Regan that she was prepared to prepare guilty, but the charges couldn’t not be dealt with as directions were not available from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Garda, who arrested her in the early hours at Ashbourne House Hotel and charged her, objected to the defendant being granted bail. Mr Regan said the defendant had started a new job and her means were not great. Judge Eirinn McKiernan first fixed bail, requiring the defendant provide an €500 cash lodgement. But after talking with the defendant removed the requirement of an independent surety .
She remanded the defendant on a personal sum of €200 to Trim District Court this Tuesday (October 14) to elect and indicate a plea on the charges. She warned the defendant if she was not present she would be remanded in custody.
