The leader of the Fine Gael Party on Meath County Council has paid tribute to a former councillor, Charles Bobbett who died on Thursday. Cllr Gerry O’Connor said that Mr Bobbett had been a hardworking Fine Gael councillor representing the Dunshaughlin area from 2004 to 2009 but had been active in Fine Gael for many years.
“We are all saddened by the news of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this difficult times”, he said. He had been a teacher at St Michael’s School in Ashbourne and tributes were paid to him by the board of management and the school community. Cllrs Joe Bonner and Caroline O’Reilly also expressed their sadness at his passing.
Mr Bobbett had stood unsuccessfully in last years local election and in the General E lection. His background in farming came to good use when he served on the Citizens’ Assembly on Biodiversity Loss. An active member of the Ashbourne community, he was involved in the tidy |towns, Broadmeadow River Group and Ashbourne Donaghmore parish Assembly. He was also involved with Ashbourne Rugby Club and Donaghmore Ashbourne GAA. The Ashbourne Chamber of Commerce also paid tribute to him.
Mr Bobbett was predeceased by his parents Alice and Pat, and his daughter RĂobhne and is survived by his children Ollie, Ryrie, Judy, Girvan and Katie-Anne.
