Meath County Council is pleased with the recent allocation of €10.5 million by the National Transport Authority (NTA) for Active Travel and Greenway projects in 2026. The announcement was made on Monday, 19 January 2026, by Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, TD, Minister of State with responsibility for International and Road Transport, Logistics, Rail and Ports, Seán Canney, TD, and Minister of State with responsibility for Rural Transport Jerry Buttimer, TD, confirming €360 million in total has been provided nationally.

This investment is dedicated to the development of walking and cycling projects that offer safe, sustainable and healthy transport options to communities around the country. In total, €10 million was provided to Meath County Council under the Active Travel Investment Grants to advance 35 projects across the county.

Highlights include:
 €4,428,800 for the Circular Road to Martha’s Bridge project in Navan
 €1,030,000 for the Trim Road Phase 2 Solstice to Athlumney
 €1,000,000 for the Bettystown Eastham Road Cycle Facilities
 €550,000 for the Newtown Road Walking Facilities in Trim
 €260,000 for the Dunboyne Cycle Network
In addition to this, €500,000 was also granted through other NTA funding streams for the Bus Stop Enhancement Programme.
