It’s a community event that Independent Councillor Joe Bonner has built into the phenomenal successful event when next Saturday will see 21 years of the Ashbourne Recycling Day. An event that gives the local community the chance to do a spring clean in their houses and gardens which has grown from strength to strength. Community projects that help the area has always drawn the support of the councillor and back in 2004 he started a project that would grow and grow. Nearly 3,000 tonnes of waste have been collected to date.
Joe has always had the policy to run the event as a Not -For- Profit Community Day. It’s a day that will see hundreds of cars and vans arriving with a mixed bag of bits and bobs that can be recycled. There is also the add on services that can also be availed with Zone One taking in paint you may wish to disposed of. Zone Two accepts WEEE products all accepting batteries and Vapes.
Zone Three will handle all your bulky waste, a modest charges applies from as little as €15 per car. There also an added service to deal with confidential document shredding. Compost is also made available on a first come, first served basis. The old adage that the early bird gets the worm!
Over the last several weeks Joe and his team of volunteers have delivered over 8,500 leaflets promoting the Ashbourne Recycling Day with all entrants making use of the event also in a draw with the chance to win a €250 One For All Voucher and a brand new iphone to be won.
The event is well organised with up to fifty people on duty. There is a track and trace system, fully compliant and as the last 21 years have proved, run professionally and efficiently.
Councillor Bonner wishes to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, community members and Meath County Council for their support in helping to make the event a success.
