A man who travelled from Limerick for a case at Navan District Court said that an EV charger that he had bought had broken down. However, Judge Eirinn McKiernan told him he had a problem because the charger broke down seven months after the designated warrant.

Santo Leung of Southville Gardens, Limerick took a case against EV Power Ltd, The Stables, Seachnaill Abbey, Dunshaughlin for compensation. Mr Leung said he had bought the charger in June 2022 for €2,240 and it failed after 43 months of domestic use. He contacted the supplier to arrange a remedy and they told him it was out of warranty “and that they no longer service my area”.

He told the judge there was a three-year warranty attached to the charger. The reason he was pursuing the matter because the charger was an expensive item. The judge said that while the EV company was not in court, it appeared to her that the machine wasseven months outside the warranty. The man said he had a reasonable expectation that the item would be a durable one. The judge replied that it was a matter for himself but she could put the case back for further evidence if he wished. He agreed to this and the case was put back to 22nd May.
