A bully dog attacked another dog being walked by a seven-year-old girl, Trim District Court was told. Before the court was 47-year-old Jason Cullen, Somerville, Fairyhouse Road, Ratoath who was prosecuted under the Control of Dogs Act for having a dog without a leash at Somerville on 3rd June 2024.

The court was told that a dog was being walked by the seven-year-old when it was attacked by the bully dog. A number of other children had witnessed the incident, the court heard. The dog was off a leash at the time.

Defending solicitor Teresa Coyle said it was a very unfortunate incident in which her client’s dog had slipped a lead. Her client had paid for the other dog’s veterinary fees and he had also had his own dog put down straight away.

A victim impact statement was provided to the court and Judge Eirinn McKiernan put the case back for two weeks for finalisation.
