This morning, the festival was officially opened by the President of Ireland, and Bloom Patron, Catherine Connolly. Attendees on opening day will be treated to live performances, talks and demonstrations throughout the day from a host of talent including gardening experts Diarmuid Gavin and Adam Frost (BBC Gardeners’ World) on the Garden Stage; chefs Neven Maguire, Rory O’Connell and Eva Pau on the Dunnes Stores Quality Kitchen Stage; leaders in climate-positive living, Mick Kelly, GIY, Ruth Hegarty, Food Policy Ireland and Deirdre Duffy, Friends of the Earth on the Sustainable Living Stage; and wellness gurus Miriam Hussey, Oonagh O’Hagan and Laura Dowling in the new Wellness Village. Meath has done well winning a number of medals in respective classes with 14 medals awarded to the county participants
The Living Bog Postcard Garden by Leaving Certificate Applied Class, St Ciaran’s Community School in Kells was awarded Commended, with the Ash2020 community garden in Ashbourne from Ash2020 Bicentenary CLG also winning Commended for its Postcard Garden. Also from Kells, This is Us Postcard Garden by Special Hands Activity Group was awarded a Certificate of Distinction. From Slane, Boyne Garden Centre & Nursery was awarded Gold and Gormanstown’s Elmgrove Irish Flower Farm won Silver-Gilt.
