Sinn Féin TD for Meath West, Johnny Guirke TD alongside Peace Commissioner Diego Keegan have renewed their call for Meath County Council to take Limekiln Wood Estate in charge following an announcement from the Minister for Housing, James Browne that funding for the LDR1a has been approved.

Teachta Guirke said: “In February 2026 Meath County Council included the LDR1a scheme in an application for potential funding from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government under the Housing Infrastructure Investment Fund (HIIF) application process. “The Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage has confirmed to me that the LDR1a project has been approved as of 16th June 2026.

“The indicative cost band will be between €10 million – €20 million. Uisce Eireann’s sewer network improvement project is ongoing and ESB is investing in a new 110kv station that will increase grid capacity.

“We welcome this investment and the project. The LDR1a will improve accessibility between Beechmount, Johnstown and further afield, while also reducing traffic congestion in the centre of Navan town.

Diego Keegan PC said: “The LDR1a distributor road will run parallel to Limekiln Hall, Limekiln Wood and Springfield Glen.

“Johnny Guirke TD and I have been in contact with both Minister Browne and Meath County Council in relation to this project. While this project is welcomed, we believe that it is vital that Limekiln Wood estate be taken in charge by Meath County Council before construction of the LDR1a commences.

“The current access road into Phase 1 of Limekiln Wood, is in an unacceptable state of disrepair, which we know has caused damage to several vehicles. That is why we have renewed our calls to Meath County Council to take Limekiln Wood estate in charge and will continue to urge for this action to be taken as soon as possible. We will continue to raise this issue until Limekiln Wood estate has been taken in charge.
