The hit and run incident that took place on Frederick Street in Ashbourne on Easter Monday morning came after an altercation between the female pedestrian and the occupants of the car that ran over her Meath Live has learned.

Multiple sources have told us that during the course of a confrontation the pedestrian a Chinese national, either fell or was knocked to the ground and the car involved reversed over her, there is no suggestion this was deliberate.

The woman remains in Connolly hospital in Blanchardstown with what are described as serious injuries.

One of the cars occupants, both of whom are in their 20s and live locally was released without charge on Monday while the other was released on Tuesday.

A Garda spokesperson said, ‘In both cases a file is being prepared for the DPP.’
