The Minister for Enterprise, Simon Coveney, has agreed to meet with TDs in Meath to discuss the ongoing situation at Tara Mines.

Yesterday the company rejected union proposals aimed at averting the temporary lay-off of 650 workers at the mine in Navan.

After representations, from Meath West TD and Aontú leader, Peadar Tóibín, the Minister has agreed to meet the six Meath TDs next week to see can a solution be worked out.

The Navan mine is due to enter ‘maintenance and care mode’ from July 14th unless its owner Boliden can significantly cut costs.
