Local matters and it certainly matters to the people of Bohermeen. At the heart of their community since 1984 has been their community centre. Originally opened by the then President Hillary, it was revamped in 1999 having suffered extensive damage. In the 25 years since that revamp, the centre has served the people of Bohermeen and its surrounds impeccably well. However, time has taken its toll on the building and the committee in charge have big plans in place to modernise and renovate the centre to ensure that it remains at the heart of community life in Bohermeen.

Last Wednesday Chairperson of Meath County Council, Cllr Tommy Reilly and recently appointed CEO Kieran Kehoe visited the Bohermeen Community Centre and met with Chairperson Joe Ball and committee member Stephen Ball for a tour of the facility and to hear about their development plans.

Throughout the years the centre has been a space for local parent and toddler groups, Bohermeen Athletic Club and the local bowls club to name but a few. It even temporarily played home to the local church during renovations a number of years back, while just last December, it housed an extremely successful Christmas Market.

“The Community Centre is the heart and soul of this local area and has served the people of Bohermeen well since it’s opened it’s doors but there can be no doubt that the building is in need of some TLC,” said Cllr Reilly.

“It is fantastic to show our new CEO Kieran, facilities such as this one and Meath County Council are committed to helping local community groups continue to provide vital spaces so that our rural communities can continue to thrive.”

“I look forward to continuing my work with the great committee here in Bohermeen Community Centre and assisting them in securing local grant funding to enable them to bring the centre up to standard for the local people who depend on it,” added Cllr Reilly.

In addition to grant funding the Bohermeen Community Centre Committee are currently running a fundraising draw, which takes place on the 16th of each month with a guaranteed prize of €1,000 each month for just €10 each month.
