This is the piece of art work presented to Independent Cllr Brian Fitzgerald at a special function to mark his 40 years service as a councillor to Meath County Council. Titled “A Tribute in Clay and Light”, the hand crafted lamp was executed by Slane potter and ceramic artist Lucy O’Gorman and presented in honour of his lifelong dedication to his community and his deep connection to the heritage of county Meath.

Outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr Sharon Tolan presenting the commissioned the hand crafted lamp to Cllr Brian Fitzgerald, Chief Executive Kieran Kehoe.

Rooted in the rich symbolism of the Boyne Valley the lamp features a stylised crown representing the Hill of Tara; flowing green and blue glazes evoking Meath’s landscape and the River Boyne; A Newgrange spiral echoing Ireland’s ancient past; A Celtic cross symbolising spiritual heritage; a salmon drawn from Irish mythology and the “Salmon of Knowledge”; a megalithic-inspired base grounding the piece in timeless Irish tradition.

Woven into the design by Lucy are personal touches – a galloping horse for Brian’s love of racing and a nod to Meath GAA reflecting pride and loyalty. “This lamp is more than an object – it is a story, a celebration of Brian’s enduring light rooted in tradition, crafted by hand and offered with deep
gratitude”, the artist said.
