The outgoing Cathaoirleach pf Meat County Council Cllr Sharon Tolan said being chairperson of the council was one of the greatest honours of her public life. Addressing councillors at her final meeting on Monday, 9th June’25 as Cathaoirleach she said that it had been a privilege to represent the council and especially the people of Co Meath. There were many challenges, many opportunities and many moments of genuine pride. From chairing meetings to representing Meath at national and international events, from celebrating our community’s achievements to standing with them in difficult times had made it a year filled with purpose and perspective.
She thanked her fellow councillors for their support, their collaboration “and yes, even their spirited debates”. This was vital to a healthy democracy. “We may not always agree but I believe we have a common goal to make Meath the best that it can be for the people who live, work and grow here.” She also thanked the chief executive Kieran Kehoe, directors of services and all the staff of Meath County Council.
