Independent Cllr Francis Deane has called on Meath County Council to write to Bus Eireann requesting a bus stop and shelter to be provided on the R147 from Navan to Kells positioned at the Newgate junction. His call was made at the September meeting of Navan Municipal District. He said that the request would have to be made to Transport Infrastructure Ireland. He said there had been a bus stop at that location for years. There were quite a few people living in that area and a bus stop and shelter should be in place.

The official Martin Murray said there were 180 applications for bus stops with a budget of about €500,000. That might not mean that shelters were included, it might mean kerbing and other small modifications. Unfortunately, they had only half a million to spend, he said. He wasn’t saying it wasn’t needed but it depended on how high up on the priority list was with Bus Eireann and the National Transport Authority.
