A 44-year-old man who had five previous convictions for driving without insurance is to serve community service in addition to a driving ban following an appearance at Trim District Court. David Reilly, Rathkenny, Navan was said to have 28 previous court convictions, among them the insurance offences. The court was told he had been banned for various periods in 2016 (four years), 2017 (two and four years), 2018 (four years).

For the latest offence he was ordered to carry out 200 hours community service and was banned for six years. Defending barrister James O’Brien said that his client had been involved in intoxicants for a number of years but had gone “cold turkey”, managed to stay out of trouble and had got employment. The defendant was one of seven people appearing before Judge Eirinn McKiernan for insurance offences.
