TD Johnny Guirke today urged the Government to provide a committed funding package and a definitive completion date for the Navan Rail Line project. While funding outlined under the National Development Plan (NDP) will see the project advance through the statutory planning system to Railway Order stage, the NDP offers little to no explicit commitment to the construction and delivery timelines of the project.

“After years of engagement, the Navan Rail Line remains delayed with insufficient assurances on when it will be delivered,” said Deputy Guirke. “The project has faced delays for years, and a clear, publicly stated funding commitment and a concrete completion date are essential if we are to deliver tangible benefits to commuters, local businesses, and the broader region.”

Deputy Guirke emphasizes that the NDP provides funding that enables progression through statutory processes toward Railway Order stage, but does not sufficiently guarantee construction timelines or a firm completion date. The Navan Rail Line has experienced lengthy delays, underscoring the need for a transparent, time-bound delivery plan. Deputy Guirke is urging a named, enforceable funding schedule and a published delivery timeline to ensure accountability and public confidence in the project’s progress.

“I have been actively pushing for this project for years. The current National Development Plan falls short of reassurances needed by communities and stakeholders who rely on improved transport links. A committed funding guarantee and a clear completion date are not optional; they are essential to delivering the Navan Rail Line,” TD Guirke added.
