In a motion submitted by Councillor Sean Drew he drew attention to the liability the council face this year. They had a liability of €546,048 payable to the Revenue Commissioners for 2026 Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT). This is the 6th highest RZLT liability of the 31 Local  Authorities.

He wanted to know the number of sites owned by Meath County Council that were included in this 2026 RZLT liability and provide details of the location of the 10 sites with the highest liabilities. He was informed that 32 Meath County Council land parcel IDs fall within the scope of Residential Zoned Land Tax (RZLT). The sites with the highest associated liabilities are concentrated across five Municipal Districts: Ashbourne (1), Kells (3),
Laytown/Bettystown (2), Navan (2) and Trim (2).

Cllr Drew commented that it was a significant liability faced by the council and the need to get these sites up and running or consider disposing of them than continuing to have this liability.
