A lot of children and adults woke up this morning to the news that their planned booking with swimming Ireland at the Pop up swimming pool in Oldcastle was cancelled after thugs vandalised the actual pool.

Unfortunately, several youths decided to take it upon themselves and have their own fun by breaking into the venue and causing damage to the pool that  sees it closed down today.

The matter is now with Gardai as the culprits didn’t realise that they were captured on CCTV inside and outside the Pool.

The facility will be closed for today (Friday 14th April) as they repair the damage done by the youths, but it will be reopened tomorrow as normal for bookings.

Sinn Féin TD, Johnny Guirke, slammed those incolved, telling Meath Live, ‘Oldcastle is a tight knit community and the people of this town and surrounding areas deserve better than this.

‘The people involved with the damage should reflect on their actions and hopefully the matter will be dealt with by the authorities.

‘I want to thank the staff who are working tirelessly today to ensure that the pop up swimming pool reopens tomorrow without any delays.

We are a proud town and really appreciate the work it took to bring this swimming pool to Oldcastle and I would ask that people support the pop up pool while it’s in the town. ‘
