Praise was heaped on Moynalty Steam Threshing Festival committee for its achievement on reaching it’s 50 th year in existence and for its work to bring visitors to County Meath. Fine Gael Cllr Sarah Reilly raised the subject at Kells Municipal District meeting on Monday saying that over 50,000 people had attended the festival on the Sunday and with 500 camper vans on site.

“It cannot be overstated the economic benefit it brought to the entire region”. She suggested a letter of congratulations should be sent on behalf of the Kells councillors to the organisers. The cllr also thanked the outdoor staff of the county council who had worked hard to ensure that the festival ran smoothly.

On a separate note she said the achievement of Kells Municipal District on getting 18 new roads added on to the roads programme. She had been on the council for 16 years and it was the first time she had seen a substantial road programme done in conjunction with the councillors. The lobbying of Kells MD councillors had paid off in terms of results, she said.

Independent Cllr David Gilroy congratulated the organisers of the celebrations around the 180 th anniversary of Athboy church.

Sinn Fein Cllr Michael Gallagher congratulated members of the Kells Handball Club on their recent win and suggested that the MD should hold a reception for the club in recognition of its achievement.
